Someone is completely misinformed here, “Wave 4 as you call it, is NOT an attempt whatsoever to beat pirates, it’s just the standard way now in which microsoft add a new dashboard update onto the disk!
Since Wave 3 the dashboard updates are now stored on a reserved partition on the disk. All Xbox 360 games have a so-called “Video partition” which contains a video that plays if you put the a 360 game into a DVD player.
On the newest games, ( “Wave 3 onwards ) this partition ALSO contains a copy of the NXE update, ( Whereas before the updates were stored on the game partition. ) The NXE updates are typically larger than pre NXE dashes, and microsoft moved the update to this “Video Partition” to leave more space on the game data partition. How thoughful of them..
iXtreme firmware has a security feature where it attempts to verify that the game you inserted is properly backed up, It does this by simply comparing checksums and ensuring security data exists and is in the right place. because if it is NOT then you run the risk of being banned from live. Along with this firmware an iso image was included for people to disable this stealth check if they so wished.
Checksums and layouts of all “Waves” of Xbox 360 disks are preknown to the iXtreme firmware, As “Wave 4 is currently NOT, the firmware will to refuse to play the game, thus keeping you from getting in trouble. This is referred to by most people as the “stealth” or “stealth check” feature.
The new firmware that will eventually be released to include “Wave 4, will be identical in almost every way to the previous firmware builds, except it will have added data to simply check and verify stealth on “Wave 4 , microsoft have added no new measures to counter pirates as you make it sound, so breaking the security already as you put it, is no shock whatsoever, just as it wasn’t much of a shock on Wave 2 or Wave 3.
These disks contain a new version of the NXE dashboard which are mandatory updates, this particular update shipped on these “Wave 4 disks i believe to be the update which patches out the infamous Jtag Exploit, so if you want to hack around with your xboxs at a later date, do not use these disks just yet.
